Fantasy Travel on a Budget

Many times I find myself daydreaming about all the places I would go, if? Well if there were no ifs. No young children in tow, no job or home responsibilities and of course money was no problem. Those are not unfortunate obstacles those are the challenges that make each trip even more gratifying.

Recently I felt a pull to go hiking on the Appalachian trail. Not sure what I was thinking.  I am not an experienced backpacker nor do I have the time to indulge this fantasy. So instead I went to see the film A Walk in the Woods. The film squelched my current desire, and allowed me to come to my senses. Sure I still want to hike the trail, but just a small section. Perhaps with a guide who’ll transport my pack from one Airbnb to the next.

Many other films that depict travel whether fact based or fictional usually have beautiful scenery, endearing characters who learn about themselves, and if portrayed in the right context can leave you with a sense that you too have somehow traveled along side them. Certainly not the same as an adventure of your own, but when you just can't get away try a good movie.
